The Sara Lee Story
The origins of Sara Lee started in America in 1935, by Charles Lubin. Charles named his first cream cheesecake after his 8 year old daughter Sara Lee, because he wanted every product to be as beautiful and perfect as she is.
We opened our famous bakehouse in 1971, on a 20-acre orange orchard in Lisarow on the NSW Central Coast. It’s here that we sourced the fruit used in the fresh orange bakery products.
By 1988, we are selling 126 different products and producing 50,000 cheesecakes a day across our retail and foodservice businesses.
In 2021, we are acquired by The South Island Office Ltd, uniting two baking businesses, Sara Lee and The Original Foods Baking Co. We also celebrated our 50th anniversary of local production on the NSW Central Coast.
More than 50 years since opening in Australia, the team at Sara Lee are still passionate about keeping founder Charles Lubin’s promise alive. To bake with love using quality, locally sourced fresh ingredients.
Our Range
We have a diverse range of products that are baked by our expert team of pastry chefs to deliver the best taste every time!
Croissants
We use 100% real butter and high-quality raw ingredients sourced from Australia where possible, to yield our expertly crafted croissant range. Our croissants are simply made from flour, un-salted butter, sugar, milk powder and yeast. The croissant pastry is gently folded, layer upon layer in a process known as lamination resulting in a light, flaky texture and a rich buttery taste. Shaped in a beautiful crescent, Sara Lee croissants are fully baked and ready-to-go, all in a convenient thaw-and-serve format.
Danishes
Made with traditional Danish dough, laminated to create a layered texture and filled with real apples, apricots, mixed berries and custard. Our Danishes are marked in portions for easy cutting and packaged in a convenient bake-able board tray. Perfect for morning and afternoon teas or heated through and served with custard, they make for a great Winter dessert.
Muffins
Our Sara Lee muffins are always soft, moist and delicious. They’re made from a true muffin batter and are available in a range of sizes to suit a range of catering needs.
Tray Cakes
We make our famous tray cakes from scratch to traditional recipes, using generous amounts of the very best ingredients – from Australia wherever possible. The range of 9 is popular for catering and functions of all kinds.
